A Spanish language tourism guide for Villa Lago Meliquina, a lake village in Neuquén where mobile signal comes and goes. Visitors get an offline 3D map, places to stay, eat and explore, and an AI assistant that answers from the guide's own listings. I have built it end to end since 2022.

The brief
Build for the visitor with no coverage
Visitors to Meliquina need the basics (where to stay, where to eat, how to get there from the Bariloche or San Martín de los Andes airports) in a place where a normal map often won't load. I launched the first version in 2022 and have rebuilt it three times since. Along the way it moved from a single page app to Next.js, from Supabase to Postgres with Prisma and Auth.js (user accounts included), and in 2026 from Mapbox to MapLibre with open map tiles.
The map is the core of the guide: a 3D map styled in the site's own palette, with terrain and contour lines drawn in the browser, curated places that cluster as you zoom out, and hand traced routes for a lookout trail and both airport drives. Map tiles are saved in the browser's database rather than its standard cache, to stay clear of storage limits, and pages are cached ahead of time from the sitemap. Since the move to MapLibre, the map needs no API key at all. I planned that migration against a parity checklist covering all seven map views.
Around the map sits the rest of the guide. Local businesses submit their own listings through a guided form with a location picker, photo and video upload and AI help writing the description, and each one is reviewed before it goes live. An AI assistant sits in the corner of the site with two tools of its own: one searches the guide's own listings, so a question about where to stay, what to eat or what to do that afternoon is answered from places that have been reviewed rather than from whatever the model happens to remember, and the other walks a visitor through installing the offline app on their phone. A set of SEO scripts checks canonical links, redirects and structured data across the site.
