Ship new features while the framework shifts underneath

Console Cloud runs the daily work of rental property management for residential and commercial portfolios: leases, arrears, compliance, inspections and the trust accounting behind owner and tenant payments. By 2022 it was a mature platform partway through a long migration, with an AngularJS application hosting dozens of independently built React micro frontends and a GraphQL layer built for the front end. New work had to be written in React without breaking navigation, deep links or the feature flags shared by both sides.

I joined shortly after Reapit acquired Console. My main build was a new property list micro frontend for rural and other property types, with tabbed lists, filters, fuzzy search, bulk CSV export and bulk messaging over GraphQL. I also split the dashboard's arrears, compliance and lease renewal widgets into residential and commercial views, and reworked the commercial list and navigation so agencies whose plan didn't include commercial management still got a useful screen instead of a dead end.

A lot of the value was subtraction. I retired four old feature flags end to end across the AngularJS client, the GraphQL layer and the React apps, merged duplicated tab pages into one configurable page, fixed deep links and breadcrumbs that broke between micro frontends, and moved duplicated helpers into the shared UI library. In a codebase partway through a migration, every branch you remove is one less place for the two halves to drift apart.

It was also a great team: really well led and closely aligned on process and goals, and I learned a lot from being part of it.
